As Carlos Sainz prepares to leave Ferrari, he and Fred Vasseur quell rumors of unrest. Their commitment highlights the team’s resilience in the face of potential upheaval and strategic shifts.
Carlos Sainz and Fred Vasseur have downplayed speculations that team dynamics at Ferrari this year could be disrupted due to the Spaniard’s departure at the season’s end.
When the news of Lewis Hamilton’s bombshell transfer to Maranello next year broke, 1997 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve forecasted stormy waters ahead for the Scuderia.
“Sainz will have no interest in working for Ferrari now. He doesn’t care about what they expect from him. His focus will now solely be on showcasing himself,” he stated.
On the other hand, Max Verstappen, the Red Bull driver, predicts equally challenging times for Mercedes, which will have to sideline Hamilton from certain meetings as the season progresses.
“It seemed like the news was leaked a bit too early, and they had to announce it. To announce something so significant so early in the season, I think the rest of the year will be a bit awkward.”
Sainz’s Future: Commitment Amid Ferrari Changes
For Sainz, however, the situation is slightly different, given that the Spaniard does not yet have a seat for 2025 and is historically expected to primarily play a team role at Ferrari.
Team principal Fred Vasseur, however, asserts that Ferrari will continue to support the 29-year-old driver.
“In this situation, the team is behind him. We had a lengthy discussion and, as you can imagine, I will fully support Carlos. He is fully committed, and we know we have to work together. We are professionals.”
Sainz also resisted the idea that he would no longer play a team role in red this year.
“I’ve always been a team player. Everyone in Formula 1 knows this. I’ve always behaved impeccably.”
“In other words, of course, I will help Charles (Leclerc) if asked. But on the other hand, I also expect him to help me if I’m fighting for the title.”
