Liam Lawson believes his performances throughout the 2026 Formula 1 season have given Racing Bulls sufficient reason to retain him for 2027, despite his future remaining unconfirmed as the team prepares to evaluate Nikola Tsolov at the Mexican Grand Prix.

Liam Lawson insists he sees no reason to worry about his Formula 1 future, expressing confidence that his performances this season have strengthened his prospects of remaining with Racing Bulls in 2027.

The New Zealander has yet to receive confirmation of his place on next year’s grid, with Racing Bulls continuing to assess its driver options ahead of the new campaign.

Nikola Tsolov is set to be evaluated by the team during Friday’s running at the Mexican Grand Prix, adding another element to the uncertainty surrounding its future line-up.

However, Lawson believes his consistency and improved performances throughout 2026 provide a strong foundation for his case to remain with the team.

Racing Bulls currently holds a comfortable fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship, having made significant progress over the course of the season.

“Yes, it’s been a good season overall,” Lawson said ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix.

“We’ve been very strong, we’ve made a lot of progress since the beginning of the year, and personally I feel very good in the car.”

Lawson Takes a Different Approach to Contract Uncertainty

Although his future remains unresolved, Lawson believes he has benefited from changing the way he approaches questions about his Formula 1 career.

The Racing Bulls driver admitted that uncertainty over his position had occupied much of his attention during the previous season, potentially affecting his performances on track.

This year, he has deliberately avoided allowing those concerns to influence his driving.

“Honestly, when I look back at last year, I was thinking about it a lot, and that probably had an impact on the way I was driving,” Lawson explained.

“This year, I think I’m generally better, and I don’t think about it.”

The New Zealander believes his recent results have provided further reassurance that he is performing at the level required to secure his future.

“When I look at how the season is going, especially over the last few weekends, I don’t think there’s any need to worry.”

Nevertheless, Lawson recognises how quickly circumstances can change in Formula 1 and remains determined to maintain his current level of performance.

“I’m going to do everything I can to keep this level because things can vary a lot in F1, but it’s been solid.”

He also believes Racing Bulls’ position in the championship has helped him remain focused on the team’s immediate objectives rather than his individual future.

“Focusing on the fight for fifth place helps me as well.”

Mexico Altitude Presents a New Challenge for Racing Bulls

Despite his confidence in the team’s recent form, Lawson expects the Mexican Grand Prix to present a particularly demanding technical challenge.

The high-altitude conditions at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez will require teams to adapt their cars to an unusual aerodynamic environment, while changes to the track surface introduce further uncertainty.

Lawson believes Racing Bulls could face difficulties because the team has had relatively little experience running its 2026 car in comparable low-downforce conditions.

“This weekend will be tricky with the altitude, and the fact that we haven’t really raced with low downforce this year, where it’s going to be very low, will make things difficult,” he explained.

“It’s probably going to feel very strange for us, and the track has been resurfaced, so there are a lot of question marks.”

The combination of altitude, aerodynamic demands and the revised circuit surface leaves Lawson reluctant to make firm predictions about Racing Bulls’ competitiveness.

Lawson Focused on Maintaining Momentum

With his 2027 seat still awaiting confirmation, Lawson faces the closing stages of the season knowing that his performances remain important to his future.

Yet rather than allowing that uncertainty to create additional pressure, the New Zealander is concentrating on maintaining the consistency that has characterised his recent races.

Racing Bulls’ position in the Constructors’ Championship provides another incentive to continue delivering results, with fifth place representing an important objective for the team.

For Lawson, the approach is straightforward: continue performing at his current level, contribute to the team’s championship campaign and allow his results to make the case for his retention.

Although a decision on his future has yet to be announced, he believes his 2026 performances give him little reason for concern.
