Tsunoda Targets Pérez Spot; Horner, Marko Differ

31/03/2024

Yuki Tsunoda’s strong season start puts him in contention for Sergio Pérez’s spot at Red Bull, stirring team debate.

Thanks to his solid start to the season, overshadowing Daniel Ricciardo, Yuki Tsunoda has emerged as a contender to replace Sergio Pérez at Red Bull.

Helmut Marko has recently expressed great satisfaction with the Japanese driver’s performances, clearly indicating that a spot at the Milton Keynes-based squad might await him if he maintains his momentum.

However, according to the American media outlet ESPN, Christian Horner is much more hesitant. The RBR team principal believes Tsunoda would not stand a chance against Max Verstappen.

Horner has never been convinced that Tsunoda would thrive in an environment as daunting and merciless as Red Bull Racing, not to mention being utterly outclassed by Verstappen.

Tsunoda, on his part, is frustrated with how he is portrayed in the media and feels he does not receive enough credit for his performances, though recent praise from Marko has offered some solace.

Moreover, the Japanese driver is not one to suppress his frustrations, as he once again demonstrated at the opening Grand Prix in Bahrain, potentially causing tension at Milton Keynes.

Facing Verstappen is a significant consideration for Horner, and Tsunoda has the rest of the season to prove he is indeed the best option to help the team move forward.
