Domenicali Anticipates Busy F1 Weekend at Imola

15/05/2024

Stefano Domenicali hints at a packed Imola event with potential major F1 announcements and updates.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali anticipates an interesting Grand Prix weekend at Imola, both on and off the track.

He expressed eagerness to see how Ferrari’s major upgrade would unfold, while also contemplating “the arrival of new reinforcements to the team”—a clear nod to Jérôme d’Ambrosio and Loic Serra from Mercedes F1.

Domenicali added with a smile, “We’ve also discussed a potential major collaboration and other interesting rumors I can’t comment on. It’s going to be busy!”

It is believed the Italian is referring to Adrian Newey, who has announced his imminent and gradual retirement from active duty at Red Bull.

“There are factors that could threaten Red Bull’s dominance,” admits Domenicali.

When asked about these factors, he responded, “Changes within the team and potential news from the driver market. So, I don’t see the risk of getting bored,” he smiled again.

Regarding the power struggle at Red Bull and the Christian Horner scandal, Domenicali stated, “Let’s not delve into company issues. Let the team handle it.”

“We will obviously monitor the situation closely, but for now, there’s no reason to intervene.”

The driver market is about to shift up a gear, with Alex Albon’s contract extension confirmed a few minutes ago, but for now, things are still quiet on the front of major seats, as the next moves of Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz become clearer.

“I expect movements in the market before Silverstone that will have a domino effect intended to change the structure of many teams,” concluded Domenicali.
