In a challenging Saudi Grand Prix, Stake F1 faced setbacks, finishing last with issues plaguing both cars and drivers.
Stake F1 experienced a disappointing weekend, finishing in the last two positions of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Valtteri Bottas acknowledged that the pace of his car was very disappointing throughout the race.
“It was a tough race, we didn’t have the pace we were expecting, especially on hard tires,” Bottas stated. “This is our biggest issue, we struggled to find pace. We tried the soft tires but it didn’t help.”
The Finn is concerned to see that his wheel nut issue from Bahrain reoccurred on the other Sauber C44 in Jeddah: “It’s worrying, for sure. It’s the same issue. Of course, we couldn’t make any changes in a week, and we have two weeks before the next race. It’s a critical problem and the team is addressing it.”
Guanyu Zhou tried to deviate in strategy by not stopping when the safety car was deployed. Unfortunately for him, the absence of another neutralization and a failed pit stop due to a stubborn nut led him to finish last.
“Everything was going well, the start of the race was challenging as we had to manage engine temperature, but we had a good pace on medium tires,” Zhou noted, urging his team to solve the problems after Bottas suffered from it in Bahrain. “But it’s frustrating, it happened twice and we need to make progress because the race was over after that.”
“For my part, this weekend was compromised by my mistake in FP3. The race pace was very competitive, more so than in other years, but we lost a lot during that pit stop and it makes it very difficult to recover after that.”
