Amid speculation of Fernando Alonso’s potential move to Mercedes, Aston Martin’s Mike Krack expresses confidence in retaining the star driver’s services.
Mike Krack is not concerned about losing Fernando Alonso now that a seat is open at Mercedes. However, the Aston Martin F1 team principal would like to secure the Spaniard’s extension as soon as he decides to continue his Formula One career after his contract ends.
“As a fan, I think Lewis’s departure is something we’re all eagerly anticipating,” Krack told Sky Sports F1. “Because it signifies a major shift for a very strong driver.”
“It’s clear that this was the topic of discussion a few weeks ago, and now other questions are emerging. What’s clear is that Fernando needs to decide whether he wants to continue or not. I think he’s been very clear on that.”
“And if he does, I hope we’ll be in pole position. We’ll try to keep him, and discussions need to happen, but I think, above all, he needs to be sure of what he wants to do.”
Krack Confident Amid Alonso’s Mercedes Speculation
Krack is aware that Alonso can sometimes be a volatile element and might decide to move to Mercedes, but he isn’t worried: “That’s a good point. But I think, Fernando being Fernando, we know he’ll give his all until the last stage of his career, whatever that may be.”
“As a team, we can only benefit from that. So, I have no doubts about this and rest assured, as long as we have two race drivers here, we’ll give them our all, and I’m sure they’ll do the same on their end.”
