Ferrari’s qualifying woes continued at Imola, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz securing only fourth and fifth positions. Leclerc expressed disappointment, while Sainz anticipated the challenging session.

Charles Leclerc couldn’t hide his disappointment after the qualifying session for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, where he qualified fourth, behind Max Verstappen and the McLaren F1 drivers.

“In FP1, FP2, and FP3, it’s hard to judge how much others are pushing, but I think we were pushing more than others because we lose performance in qualifying and it’s not as good as we expected, it’s a bit disappointing,” Leclerc said.

“We’ll wait and see tomorrow. The car is quite good in race conditions; it has been since the start of the year. In qualifying, we struggle a bit more, and that was the case today, so we need to unlock that performance in qualifying because it makes our Sundays more difficult.”

“We’ll focus on the race. Tomorrow there might be a bit of rain, so we need to be on the right side of the strategies to end the weekend better than this qualifying session.”

Carlos Sainz qualified just behind his teammate and wasn’t surprised to see Verstappen and the McLaren F1 drivers outperform the Scuderia in qualifying.

“Looking at the details of the weekend, McLaren is stronger than us on soft tires over one lap. We knew they would be hard to beat in qualifying, and then there’s Max, who is always there, even when he struggles in practice,” Sainz said.

“For us, nothing special. I struggled on soft tires; I’m much faster on mediums and hards than on softs, so we need to understand. But other than that, we’re where we expected to be.”
