Kubica and Ye Clinch First Le Mans Title for AF Corse

Ferrari Secures Third Straight Le Mans in Commanding Win

Ferrari confirmed its dominance at Le Mans as Kubica, Ye and Hanson secured a dramatic overall victory for the no. 83 AF Corse.

Ferrari no. 83 from the AF Corse team, driven by Robert Kubica, Yifei Ye, and Phil Hanson, won the 93rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans this Sunday, clinching a historic victory.

Since its return to prototype racing, Ferrari has made Le Mans its hunting ground. The Maranello-based firm confirmed this on Sunday by achieving a third consecutive win, each time with a different car.

After the no. 51 of Pier Guidi, Giovinazzi, Calado in 2023, and no. 50 of Molina, Fuoco, Nielsen in 2024, it was the no. 83 of AF Corse that claimed victory with Kubica, Ye, and Hanson.

The trio earned their first overall win at Le Mans. It marks a major comeback for Kubica and Ye, who heartbreakingly lost the LMP2 class victory on the final lap in 2021 with team WRT.

They also become the first drivers from Poland and China to win overall. For Yifei Ye, the success is particularly meaningful, as he was trained in Le Mans and lived there during his teenage years.

The trio secured victory in a race clearly dominated by Ferrari. Though the Hertz Team JOTA Cadillacs locked the front row in Hyperpole, they lost the lead after just one lap.

Starting third, Julien Andlauer made a perfect getaway, placing Porsche no. 5 at the front. Porsche performed well, with no. 6 rising from last to the lead group, but Ferrari remained untouchable.

Maranello quickly positioned its three cars on the podium. No major race incident disrupted their progress. The trio fought among themselves, and the no. 83 benefited from a decisive mistake.

Alessandro Pier Guidi lost control of the no. 51 car entering the pits late Sunday morning, surrendering the lead and effectively handing victory to the privateer car of Kubica, Ye, and Hanson.

Behind them, Porsche no. 6 with Estre, Vanthoor, and Campbell finished second, ahead of Ferrari no. 51. For the French manufacturers, this Le Mans edition proved to be far less favorable.

Unlike last year, both Alpine cars completed the race, finishing in 10th and 11th places. Peugeot closed the event in 12th and 17th position, showing limited progress on their return to Le Mans.

In LMP2, the outcome was decided during the final hour. The no. 43 Oreca 07 of Inter Europol received a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit lane while leading the category.

The car, driven by Yelloly, Dillmann, and Smiechowski, had dominated most of the race before yielding the lead to VDS Panis Racing, whose car was driven by Masson, Perera, and Gray.

The French team’s joy was short-lived as the no. 48 suffered a suspension issue shortly after taking the lead, allowing the Polish outfit to reclaim and secure the class victory in the final laps.

AO by TF won the LMP2 Pro/Am sub-category with PJ Hyett, Louis Delétraz, and Dane Cameron, who delivered a solid performance over 24 hours and maintained a consistent pace throughout the night and early morning stints.

In LMGT3, after the no. 46 BMW of Team WRT faced trouble at nightfall, Porsche and Ferrari battled for the lead during the race’s second half. It was Porsche no. 92 that ultimately triumphed.

The victory marked a second straight win for Manthey and their star driver Richard Lietz. The Austrian earned his fifth class win at Le Mans, all of them accomplished with the German marque Porsche.

For teammates Riccardo Pera and Ryan Hardwick, it was a maiden Le Mans victory. The American gentleman driver played a crucial role, notably with a fast triple stint that launched this 93rd edition strongly.

Alessio Rovera, François Hériau, and Simon Mann secured second place for Ferrari with the no. 21 296 LMGT3 from Vista AF Corse. Corvette claimed third with no. 81 of TF Sport: Eastwood, Van Rompuy, and Andrade.
