Red Bull Focus on Performance Over Wins

Red Bull Focus on Performance Over Wins

18/05/2024

Red Bull’s Pierre Waché emphasizes relentless performance improvement, undeterred by external pressures, prioritizing car efficiency over mere victories.

For several races, the pressure seems to be mounting on Red Bull from McLaren F1, winners in Miami, and Ferrari, who won the Australian GP and started the Imola weekend very strongly this Friday. Pierre Waché, the team’s technical director, explains that there isn’t really any additional pressure for now.

“We feel the pressure of performance on the car. I think everyone here feels the pressure of performance on the car. It would be a dream to think that we can rest on our laurels and win the championship like that,” admits Waché.

“In this job, you have to keep moving forward, or you fall behind. It’s certain that we are looking to improve the car’s performance. Whether we won the last race or not doesn’t matter. It’s our job and our mindset.”

When asked about the RB20’s expected different appearance upon returning to Europe, as stated by the team earlier in the season, he explains that visible evolution is not the priority: “First of all, I think it’s an improvement that we have here.”

“I think the visibility of this improvement might not be as obvious from the outside, but it’s something interesting for us. What we put on the car and how we develop it will depend on the feedback from our performance tools.”

“And we will decide not to make it apparent at first, but to make the car more efficient. That’s how we work. The plan is not fully defined and mainly depends on what we have discovered.”
