In 2024, Oscar Piastri shines at McLaren, marking a leap in progress as his second F1 season unfolds.
Oscar Piastri continues to impress McLaren F1 early in the 2024 season. The Australian driver, in his second year of Formula 1, has shown significant progress, as explained by his team director, Andrea Stella.
“Even compared to last year in Australia, or Japan, and other early season venues, we’ve made a lot of progress,” Stella said. “It’s incredibly promising to think that this is just the start of the second season.”
“When you consider all the progress he still has to validate, I believe the future is very bright from Oscar’s perspective. Australia was indeed challenging.”
Stella believes Piastri still needs to adapt to several factors, detailing: “When I speak of adaptation, it’s not about adjusting when a problem occurs. It’s about adapting to prevent the problem from starting.”
“You need to somehow discern from the context that certain circumstances may lead to certain issues before they actually arise. When you’re a rookie, you somehow have to head towards the problem and realize afterwards how you got there.”
“I think this is the mechanism by which he’s now much more aware that certain conditions will lead to certain problems. So, you begin to understand where the potential limit lies, even by accelerating by one km/h. It’s a fine-tuning, almost like an exercise in self-calibration through experience.”
