Lance Stroll gets one-place Monaco grid penalty after FP1 clash with Charles Leclerc; stewards rule him fully at fault.
Lance Stroll has been handed a one-place grid penalty by the Monaco Grand Prix stewards following his collision with Charles Leclerc during free practice.
At the start of the first session in the Principality, Stroll moved to the left at the hairpin to let Kimi Antonelli through, then steered right to navigate the left-hand corner.
However, he was then hit by Leclerc, who was on a fast lap and unable to avoid the Canadian. Red flags were briefly shown due to debris.
In their verdict, the stewards deemed Stroll “wholly responsible for the collision,” stating that Leclerc had no opportunity to avoid him.
Stroll was also given one penalty point on his super licence, bringing his total to three over the 12-month period.
Leclerc returned to the track and set the fastest time of the session, while Stroll remained in the garage due to rear suspension damage and a gearbox change. He finished 20th and last in FP1.
