McLaren F1 surprised everyone this Tuesday by unveiling their 2024 livery. Team CEO Zak Brown expressed his delight in creating a new design to please both fans and sponsors, as it was their feedback that inspired this design.
“We love it, and it’s made for the fans! We’ve introduced various liveries in recent years, we’re deeply engaged with our fans, and we’ve considered what our partners and fans wanted. We’re proud of it and can’t wait to see it on track for the first time,” Brown stated.
The American further explained that McLaren aims to continue its progress: “We want to pick up where we left off, at the front of the pack. There was a gap to the leaders, but everyone at McLaren did an incredible job this winter developing the car after doing so well with last year’s model.”
“But other teams aren’t standing still, and I’m sure they’ll bring cars that are faster than last year’s. So, we’ll have to see where that places us in the early part of the season.”
He admits catching up to Red Bull will be tough and also doesn’t rule out the threat posed by two other teams: “It’s hard to say. Mercedes and Ferrari are incredible teams. Our focus is on Red Bull as the favorites, given their performance last year.”
“But the development pace of our car last year prevents us from predicting who will lead. The grid is very tight thanks to the budget cap. We need to manage this A and B team situation well to ensure the budget cap is effectively maintained, and on that basis, we could have ten competitive teams next year.”
“To Win a Little Everywhere”
To achieve victory and compete against other top teams, Brown explains that McLaren has invested heavily in infrastructure and recruitment to improve the team in all areas.
“It’s crucial to have consistent gains, whether it’s with people or technology. We have everything we need. It’s a highly competitive sport, so we have new people, new technologies, and we need to win a little everywhere, which is what the team is working towards.”
Brown is relying not only on all the new recruits but also on a driver duo comprising Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, whom he considers the best currently on the grid.
“We have the best driver duo. We appreciate their age, experience, and how they work together. We hope to keep them at McLaren for a long time and are trying to provide them with the equipment to win, as we’re confident they can achieve it.”
“We’re setting up the structure; you need the right director, the right technical department, the right mechanics, the right marketing department, the right HR department, and we have all these people, so we need to get them working together.”
