Leclerc's Mixed Feelings at Saudi GP Podium 2024

Leclerc’s Mixed Feelings at Saudi GP Podium

09/03/2024

Charles Leclerc experienced a mix of emotions after securing a podium at the Saudi GP, battling satisfaction and frustration against Red Bull’s dominance.

Charles Leclerc found himself torn between satisfaction and frustration at the conclusion of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver achieved his first podium of the season but was unable to compete against the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez, who secured a one-two finish.

“We had a good pace since I set the fastest lap in the final lap, and I was assisted by DRS. The feel was positive, the race was dull because Red Bull was too quick and had a lead, but we scored the maximum points, and that was the goal,” Leclerc stated.

Physically, he fared better, and the Monegasque has a theory why: “It’s better than last year, maybe because I was more isolated and had less adrenaline! But it’s a very tough race, the high-speed corners are harsh on the neck, and it’s exhausting.”

Leclerc also had words of praise for Ollie Bearman, his young teammate for the weekend. Filling in for Carlos Sainz, Bearman finished seventh, and Leclerc was generous with his compliments for the Brit: “He absolutely deserves this result; he did an incredible job.”

“He was already up to speed in FP3, narrowly missed Q3 yesterday, and to finish seventh in his first race is remarkable, especially in a new car with just FP3 under his belt. He can be very proud, but we all knew he was highly talented, and it was just a matter of time before he made it into F1.”
