Pierre Gasly candidly evaluates Alpine F1’s underwhelming debut in Bahrain, highlighting pre-race anticipation of challenges.
Pierre Gasly acknowledges Alpine F1’s season start in Bahrain as disappointing, yet the Frenchman once again reminds that this was no surprise within the team, foreseeing the difficulties at this inaugural Grand Prix.
“The performance and final outcome in Bahrain were expected to kick off the season,” Gasly states. “Our goal was to continue learning and progressing by trying to maximize what we had at our disposal.”
“Ultimately, we didn’t manage to put all the pieces of the puzzle together, but it wouldn’t have made a significant difference in the end. I faced a tricky Q1 with traffic on my last out lap.”
“In the race, we sometimes lacked a bit of luck, like with the first corner chaos after a good start and a pit stop issue that slightly set us back. So, there’s clearly more to come from our side.”
Gasly urges Alpine fans to remain patient, but he assures that the motivation is there: “We need to keep the bigger picture in mind, and we are far from where we want to be as a team. We have many areas to improve, we know which ones, and I am confident we will find the solutions.”
“We stay focused, working hard with the tools at our disposal, and it will require a bit of patience. We are well aware of our situation and progressing will take time, but it doesn’t affect my mindset. I’m approaching this weekend ready to leave with the best possible result.”
Now, he looks forward to Jeddah, hoping to fare slightly better: “We’ve had a few days to analyze and find improvements before this weekend. There are clearly small things we can build on for Jeddah.”
“This circuit presents an exciting challenge, very different from Bahrain, and it will be interesting to see how the car performs on a more rhythmic layout. It’s a place I enjoy driving. It’s fast, technical, and I’m eager to get back behind the wheel on Thursday.”
