Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance, is satisfied with the collaboration with Red Bull Racing. From 2026, Ford will be re-entering Formula 1, as Red Bull Powertrains will benefit from the expertise of the American car brand. So far, everything is progressing smoothly, though there is still much work to be done, and an expansion of the partnership is not ruled out.
Red Bull is not focusing solely on the 2024 season in the coming period. Behind the scenes, the Austrian racing team has been working on its own engine project for a while. From 2026, Red Bull will compete using its own power units, which will then bear the Ford badge.
“We’re working very well with Red Bull,” a satisfied Rushbrook tells Motorsport.com. “They are our partners and our focus is on winning. We want to make that possible and have looked for the best partner.”
Ford is engaging in discussions with potential partners.
For Ford, these will be exciting years ahead. The American brand will not only bring a new logo to the car, but it is also leveraging the expertise of its own engineers to build a competitive engine.
“We’ve made significant progress last year, but to be well-prepared on the grid in 2026, there’s still a lot to be done,” says Rushbrook. While he can’t reveal much about the plans for the coming years, he does offer a glimpse: “They are involved in many different forms of motorsport.”
There are indeed rumors that Ford is also seeking a partner in other branches of motorsport, and it’s not out of the question that this partner could again be Red Bull.
Currently, for instance, Ford participates as a factory team in the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia. “We are also in the WRC. It’s true that we’re talking to potential partners, and we’ll see how that unfolds,” concludes a satisfied Rushbrook.
