The 2024 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix is set to ignite the F1 season in Europe, with teams ready to compete at Imola. Red Bull seeks revenge at the 2024 Imola GP, eyeing a pivotal win.
After tours in the Middle East, races in Oceania and Asia, and a round in the United States, F1 finally returns to Europe this weekend with the Made In Italy and Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.
Last year, the race had to be canceled due to terrible floods that struck the region, forcing Formula 1 to step back from a very complicated situation for the locals.
This will be only the second time that the cars under the new regulations will come to Imola, with a totally changed situation. At that time, it was the fourth race with the new cars, and teams were battling chassis weight and porpoising issues.
The track:
The circuit has undergone some changes since 2006, notably the removal of the Variante Bassa, which was the last chicane before the straight. Now, cars go from Rivazza to Tamburello at full throttle, with two slight right turns.
Tamburello and the Variante Villeneuve are expected to be very fast before Tosa, which will be one of the slowest points of the circuit. Piratella and Acqua Minerale will be corners passed certainly much faster than in 2006, while the Variante Alta and the double-left Rivazza will make for a slower end to the lap on a circuit that should still be very fast.
Forces at Play:
In Miami, as in Melbourne, Red Bull faltered. For several reasons, whether mechanical or in the race dynamics, the team has already lost more races in six events this year than in the entire last season.
Therefore, it is not out of the question to see McLaren and Ferrari challenge Red Bull and Max Verstappen. The latter remains the two-time reigning winner of the event and will be the favorite. If he continues his streak of pole positions, he will be well-positioned in the race since overtaking is tricky on this track.
Behind them, Mercedes and Aston Martin will continue to fight for the top positions and must be wary of the resurgent RB F1, which now aims for the top 10 under almost all conditions.
Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix Schedule:
For the first time this season, this weekend’s Grand Prix will follow European timings, with the race at 3 PM. As it is not a Sprint format, the practice sessions EL1/EL2/EL3 will follow traditional times, with qualifications at 4 PM.
