Doohan Begins 2024 Testing Program with A522 at Zandvoort

Jack Doohan starts his 2024 testing with the A522 at Zandvoort, gearing up for an intense season with Alpine F1’s 2022 ground-effect car.

Alpine F1 reserve driver Jack Doohan conducted his first tests of the 2024 season with the A522.

The past two days at the Zandvoort circuit, which hosts the Dutch Grand Prix, marked the first appearance of the A522, Alpine F1’s first ground-effect car from 2022, in the 2024 testing program.

These tests are part of Jack Doohan’s 2024 testing and training program. The two days of running allowed Jack and the support team to familiarize themselves with the 2022 car before a more intense program this year.

In addition to his support at the circuits, in the simulator, and in marketing, Doohan’s testing program is a key element of his role as the team’s official reserve driver.

Before the Zandvoort tests, Doohan drove the Grand Prix-winning A521 in February in Barcelona. The Australian had previously driven the A522 during his Grand Prix weekend debut in Free Practice 1 at the 2022 Mexican Grand Prix. He then took the wheel again on Friday at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the end of the season.

The support team will test the A522 again next month in Austria, with drivers to be announced soon.

“It was great to get back on track with the A522 and drive it for the first time at Zandvoort,” commented Jack Doohan.

“We had two good days, and it was amazing to have the circuit to myself. Driving this new-generation car made the test extremely important as it gave the support team the chance to learn and deepen their knowledge of today’s cars, just as it did for me.”
