Stefano Domenicali has reshaped Formula 1, boosting its global appeal, enhancing the show, and making the sport stronger than ever before.
Flavio Briatore believes that Stefano Domenicali has made Formula 1 “much stronger” since taking charge.
After some uncertainty about his future, F1’s owners, Liberty Media, have confirmed that Domenicali has signed a new deal, keeping him in charge until 2029.
Briatore, now an advisor at Alpine F1, has seen the sport evolve under Bernie Ecclestone, Chase Carey, and now Domenicali. While he was close to Ecclestone, he admits that Domenicali has transformed the sport in a big way.
“Formula 1 has changed massively with Stefano. It’s stronger than ever. Bernie built F1 into a major sport, but Stefano has focused on the show and the spectacle.”
“The image of F1 is now much bigger. We used to race in a hotel car park in Las Vegas – now, we have three races in the US. Young drivers are all over social media, bringing in a new generation of fans.”
“So much has changed.”
Haas F1 boss Ayao Komatsu agrees that Domenicali is all about the spectacle. He shared an example from the recent event at London’s O2 Arena.
“Stefano was making sure the red carpet was perfect, that everyone walked it properly. And honestly, it was a great success.”
“He deserves to be in charge – he’s made F1 more popular than ever.”
