Alesi Reacts to Hamilton’s Ferrari Switch

Jean Alesi, ex-Ferrari F1 star, shares insights on Hamilton’s Ferrari move. He praises the decision, marking it as a pivotal moment for the team and a strategic masterstroke for the Scuderia’s future.

Jean Alesi, former Ferrari F1 driver and current president of the Paul Ricard circuit, has reacted to Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari.

The Frenchman admits that the Scuderia has certainly made the move of the century, as he confides to Nice Matin.

“We knew there was a lot of discussion behind the scenes since last year. There were negotiations. I think the decision wasn’t made at the last minute. It was made a few months ago. And the secret was well kept, obviously, given the shockwave it caused this Thursday evening. For Ferrari, it can be said to be the announcement of the century!”

Alesi obviously commends the work of Fred Vasseur, the director of the Scuderia.

“Lewis’s decision was well thought out. Because he’s not going to Ferrari just to make up the numbers. He must have looked at everything, studied everything. And first the people in place… He knows Fred very well since he grew up in his teams. Believes in him. He believes in his project, that’s it!”

Charles Leclerc was informed of Ferrari’s intentions even before extending his contract. Should the Monegasque be happy about such an arrival by his side?

“It’s great news!” according to Alesi.

“Charles is all about flair, pure speed, talent, youth. Given his young age, precisely, what he lacked until now was a bit of weight in discussions with the management, the engineers. In 2025, a seven-time world champion will arrive. Someone who can pound the table, influence decisions. When you aspire to win the supreme crown, believe me, it’s better to have in the garage next door a crowned head that gives you a run for your money. And, at the same time, who will help the team progress faster.”

“In my eyes, Lewis is the cornerstone of the edifice Fred wants to build. I can’t imagine he will arrive at Maranello alone. A small group of people will accompany him. Brains, technicians capable of aiming for the top, as well.”
