At the Chinese Grand Prix, McLaren F1 shows promising performance, exceeding initial forecasts, boosting team spirits.
Oscar Piastri qualified eighth for the Sprint at the Chinese Grand Prix, and the McLaren F1 driver is frustrated to have missed his last lap. A gear selection cost him a few precious tenths to do better, although he does not think he could have fought for pole against his teammate Lando Norris.
“I thought it was going well, and on the last lap, I had a small issue. When I shifted a gear, it went into neutral. I don’t know how much time I lost, a certain amount, not enough to aim for pole, Lando did a good job. But yes, it’s frustrating,” said Piastri.
The Australian is pleased to see that the MCL38 was in better shape than expected on the dry, as it seemed to struggle with the Ferraris. However, he expresses a reservation about the definitive hierarchy.
“Yes, I think we seem better than what we expected, but of course, it’s hard to know because everyone has done very little running. But overall, I think it’s more positive than what we expected.”
