Hülkenberg Proposes More F1 Points Distribution

Nico Hülkenberg suggests expanding F1’s point system to reflect team performances more accurately amid reliability and advantages.

Nico Hülkenberg believes that given the reliability of current cars and the clear advantage of the top 10 teams, it might be beneficial to consider awarding more points. While he doesn’t view this step as crucial, he suggests reflecting on it for the near future if the field doesn’t tighten up during races.

“It’s tricky because there are 20 cars and only 10 earn points, and it has been this way for a very long time,” Hulkenberg stated. “It’s a good system, but the gap is evidently large on Sundays.”

“It might be slightly premature to say we need to change the points system, but if this trend continues for much longer, then perhaps it’s something that needs consideration.”

“Even for qualifying, there could be points awarded or something along those lines, but it’s fascinating to see how, with budget caps, Saturdays are so competitive, with everyone so closely packed together, with hundredths or thousandths making a big difference.”

The German acknowledges the impact of FIA decisions: “However, it’s intriguing to observe, with the budget caps, how competitive Saturdays are, with everyone so closely packed, with hundredths or thousandths making a significant difference.”

“In the end, the larger teams always have more budget and resources. There’s a definite difference, and it’s clearly visible on Sundays.”
