As the F1 “silly season” unfolds, Carlos Sainz pledges unwavering team spirit for Ferrari’s 2024 championship aspirations, despite the looming end of his tenure and the arrival of Lewis Hamilton in 2025.
If Ferrari had any concerns about Carlos Sainz’s willingness to play the team game in F1 2024, then those worries have been allayed.
This comes at the expense of Sainz, who is gearing up for 2024 knowing it will be his last season in Ferrari red.
Ferrari isn’t shy about issuing team orders to its drivers, but with Sainz knowing he doesn’t have a long-term future at Maranello, will he still be willing to prioritize Leclerc if asked to do so?
Sainz has confirmed he will always respect Ferrari’s orders in 2024 and expects the same in return.
Sainz Vows Support for Leclerc’s Title
Asked at the launch of the SF-24 in Maranello if he would assist Leclerc in his potential title quest in 2024 if Ferrari asked him to, Sainz responded: “Of course. I have always been a team player.”
“In everything I’ve done in Formula 1, I think I’ve been a great team player, always exemplary in this sense as a driver for any team.”
“I will certainly help Charles if needed, in the same way, I expect Charles to help me if I am myself fighting for a world championship.”
And this hunger to fight for the title doesn’t change for Sainz despite the situation, nor does the pressure he will put on himself or the team to perform.
“The pressure I put on myself, on the team, my engineers, and everyone involved, will be exactly the same.”
“The thirst to win races, the thirst to become champion does not change simply because of what’s happening in 2025. We all have the same goal. We all have the same ambitions this year.”
“And the fact that I won’t be a Scuderia Ferrari driver in 2025 does not mean we do not want to become champions together this year or win races this year.”
“So I think it will be exactly the same. On the contrary, I can focus even more on my present knowledge, then focus more on the things race by race, making sure we have the best possible car and feeling good and not having to focus as much on development and for the future.”
