Sergio Pérez faced traction and balance issues, finishing fourth at the Miami Grand Prix.
Sergio Pérez nearly made a grave error at the start of the Miami Grand Prix, missing his braking point while trying to overtake Charles Leclerc on the inside. The Red Bull driver narrowly avoided colliding with his teammate’s car and even damaged Max Verstappen’s diffuser. He explains that he was taken by surprise by the lack of grip on that line.
“From the moment I found myself on the inside of Charles and hit the brakes, I had no grip at all, just like we saw yesterday with Lewis,” Pérez stated. “When you are off the racing line here, especially at turn 1, there is no grip, and I struggled to brake.”
Finishing fifth, as he did in yesterday’s Sprint, he explains that it was the best possible result given the lack of performance he encountered with his RB20 throughout the race.
“I think we were lacking a bit of balance. We will have to review what was happening here, and we did the best race possible under the circumstances, as we clearly lacked pace today.”
Update at 2:45 AM: Pérez eventually ranks fourth after Carlos Sainz received a penalty for a collision with Oscar Piastri.
