Sebastian Vettel pays tribute to Ayrton Senna by driving his iconic McLaren MP4/8 at the upcoming Emilia-Romagna GP.
The life of the Brazilian triple world champion was tragically cut short by a fatal accident at Imola 30 years ago, at just 34 years old, yet his legacy continues to live on, as does the way he dazzled F1 during his career in the sport.
Vettel—a four-time F1 world champion with Red Bull—will be at Imola for this year’s Grand Prix, taking place from May 17 to 19, to pay homage to a driver he also greatly admired.
The German will take the wheel of the MP4/8, the car McLaren competed with in the 1993 championship, which was to be Senna’s last with the team before his move to Williams for the following season.
“Ayrton Senna was not only a driver I greatly respected because he was one of the finest racers ever seen, but also a man of deep compassion,” said Vettel.
“It has been 30 years since his accident and I would like to pay tribute to Ayrton.”
“I will be at Imola for the Grand Prix to drive his car, the McLaren MP4/8. I hope to see you on Sunday, May 19.”
