Mercedes boss Toto Wolff praises Red Bull’s F1 prowess, rejecting calls for regulatory changes to curb their dominance.
Toto Wolff does not wish for the FIA to step in to halt Red Bull’s dominance. The Mercedes F1 team boss commends the work done by his rivals and, recalling Christian Horner’s suggestion during Mercedes’ dominance, the Austrian dismisses the need for a regulatory change to end this dominance.
“I don’t want to fall into the trap of my fellow team director next door who, back in 2014 or 2015, said we should change the regulations because one team was dominating too much,” Wolff stated, referring to Horner.
“I believe they have done by far the best job of all teams over the past two years and credit must be given where credit is due. They literally disappear into the distance as they please during the race, and there’s no one getting close.”
However, Wolff is still impressed by the domination of the RB20 and Max Verstappen: “They had Ferrari this Saturday, Leclerc a bit, and if Sainz had been there, they would have been second on the road. But there isn’t that huge performance difference among all the others. Depending on the circuit, they are in a league of their own.”
