Wolff Hamilton's Triumph A Long-Awaited Tale

Hamilton’s Fairy Tale Win Erases Negativity

08/07/2024

Hamilton’s stunning victory unfolds as a fairy tale, clearing past negativity. Wolff celebrates the long-awaited triumph.

Toto Wolff does not want to have regrets about Lewis Hamilton choosing to leave Mercedes F1 for Ferrari next year. The team director will be pleased to close this long chapter gracefully, especially after the victory at Silverstone this Sunday.

“In my life, I have no regrets because you can’t have regrets,” Wolff declared. “We are adults. We make decisions. That’s the most important thing. We need to finish this season beautifully and provide a car that allows them to win and the team to score points in the championship. And that’s where we are.”

Wolff praises the progress of Mercedes, and appreciates that Hamilton’s winning return happened at the most significant place: “When you think that five races ago, we were not even in contention for the podium, which looked like the third year of a lack of performance, and then the click happened.”

“Suddenly, everything that made no sense made sense. We find the performance, we put it on the car. This wasn’t the case in the past two years. We couldn’t give the drivers a car that allowed them to win.”

“And to have Lewis win the British Grand Prix again in his last race for Mercedes here, it’s almost a little fairy tale, we couldn’t have scripted it better. We have justified that what we are doing is right at the moment.”

Wolff reminds that Hamilton is his friend and he is happy to have seen him return to the top of the podium: “It is clear that our relationship goes back a long way. Each of us has suffered at different times. He has been there for me.”

“More recently, I have tried to contribute to his doubts, at times. That’s why I am delighted that he was able to put aside all the negative thoughts, all the negativity, and that he was able to perform this feat. I think it’s a weight off his shoulders.”
