After the Japanese GP, Toto Wolff, Mercedes F1’s director, boldly predicts Max Verstappen’s fourth Formula 1 championship win in 2024, citing unmatched performance.
Upon crossing the finish line, Toto Wolff, Mercedes F1’s director, declared: Max Verstappen is set to become a four-time Formula 1 World Champion in 2024.
The Austrian sees no alternative scenario following the results at the Japanese GP.
“No one will catch up to Max this year. He’s driving as well as ever, and his car is simply spectacular. You can observe his tire management skills and how he executes them.”
“Essentially, this season boils down to who will emerge as the best of the rest, both among drivers and teams. That’s the ongoing battle. I hope we can catch up to McLaren and Ferrari and contend for second place. That’s the situation this year, and it was the same last year. We finished second last year.”
What does Max Verstappen think of these comments? The Dutchman smiles, hinting at Wolff’s desires to have him join Mercedes F1 amidst Red Bull’s internal power struggles.
“Lately, Toto has been really kind, saying a lot of nice things about me! Don’t you think? It’s odd! (laughs)”
More seriously, regarding the championship being already promised to him, he responds: “No, I don’t know. It’s still a very long season.”
“I don’t want to think too much about the rest of the season. I really want to take it race by race. I know there will be tracks coming up that might not favor us much, but of course, when we get to tracks where we know we can be fast, we really need to take advantage and score as many points as a team as we can, and that’s what we’ll continue trying to do.”
“We know we’re heading to tracks where it might be a bit more challenging; we also need to try to maximize that, where maybe other teams can also win.”
