Max Verstappen stays true to himself—straight-talking, no-nonsense, and unfazed by the FIA’s stricter rules as the season kicks off.
Verstappen isn’t one to mince his words. Once again, the Red Bull driver is making his stance clear—on and off the track.
At the FIA’s traditional Thursday press conference ahead of the season opener in Melbourne, Verstappen kept things short and sharp, offering no-nonsense answers and avoiding lengthy discussions. His approach? Say what’s necessary and move on.
It’s no secret that this comes in the wake of the FIA’s stricter stance on driver conduct, particularly around swearing. The new regulations are set to impose even harsher penalties, a move that has sparked plenty of debate.
Still visibly frustrated but careful with his wording, Verstappen addressed the issue outside the FIA room.
“You have to be a bit more careful with this rule, of course. But honestly, I don’t have much more to say than I already do, and I don’t want to waste too much time on it. Just relax. You’ll see for yourself!”
“Sure, you can challenge things, but it doesn’t always help. I don’t really feel like doing that. I do my thing on the weekend and then go home. After that, I’ve got plenty to focus on. This season’s already packed, even outside of racing.”
Not a Fan of the Media Circus
When asked if he enjoys these press sessions, Verstappen’s response was laced with sarcasm:
“Yes!” (Cue the laughter.)
On a more serious note, he acknowledged:
“It’s part of the job, isn’t it?”
But he made it clear that he prefers discussions that actually matter.
“I’ve always liked serious and productive conversations. Same with social media.”
“Social media was different when I joined Red Bull in 2016. The world has changed since then. It’s still an option, of course, but I don’t really feel like it anymore. Not the pointless stuff. If it’s something constructive, something to learn from, I’m all for it. But TikToks and all that? I don’t see the appeal.”
And About That Swearing Rule?
Verstappen wasn’t holding back:
“I suppose that’s normal, isn’t it?” he quipped, before adding:
“It’s a bit ridiculous to have to manage something like this. Sometimes, with all the adrenaline, things slip out. But putting it in the regulations? That’s a bit much, I’d say.”
It’s clear Verstappen won’t be changing his approach anytime soon. Direct, unfiltered, and focused on what really matters—just as he always has been.
