Despite the buzz around Hamilton’s Ferrari debut, Leclerc stays composed, insisting there’s no rivalry—just a shared focus on the team’s success.
As the Australian Grand Prix weekend kicks off, all eyes are on Lewis Hamilton, making his first official race appearance in Ferrari red. Naturally, the buzz is massive. But how does his new teammate, Charles Leclerc, feel about it?
No worries at all, apparently.
Leclerc insists he doesn’t feel “threatened” by Hamilton’s arrival, despite the huge media and social media hype.
“Ferrari isn’t about just one driver. It never has been. The team is bigger than any of us.”
“That’s what makes Ferrari special. The support is for the whole team, not just one person. Of course, Lewis is a legend of the sport, so it’s normal he gets a lot of attention. But that doesn’t bother me at all. There’s no threat or anything like that. I completely understand it.”
Leclerc is clear: there’s no competition over who should be the face of Ferrari. “That’s just not how it works here.”
After 12 years at Mercedes and six at McLaren, Hamilton is adjusting to a new culture, a new way of working. But according to Leclerc, he’s already fitting in well.
“Honestly, Lewis doesn’t need my advice. I know the team better than he does for now, but he’s settled in really well. He looks comfortable.”
Of course, getting fully up to speed will take time. But when it comes to advice?
“We’ve talked a lot, but most of my tips have been about the food!” Leclerc laughs. “If he ever needs anything, I’m here to help. But honestly, I probably need more advice from him than the other way around!”
