Vasseur Urges Ferrari to Elevate Game for Austria GP

Ferrari’s Vasseur Demands Qualifying Focus in Austria

27/06/2024

Ferrari’s Fred Vasseur insists on prioritizing qualifying performance, aiming for significant improvements as the team heads to the Austrian Grand Prix.

After a zero score in Canada, Ferrari was supposed to bounce back in Barcelona. The team managed to bring its upgrades ahead of schedule… but the result was rather disappointing.

Ferrari was indeed beaten in Barcelona by Red Bull, McLaren F1, and even Mercedes. This status as the fourth fastest team, even if the gaps are narrow, is of course not satisfactory.

Will the Barcelona upgrades work better at the Red Bull Ring this weekend? The Scuderia will have to find the right settings to do so. And it won’t be easy since there will only be one hour of free practice due to the sprint format.

Fred Vasseur is reassuring about Ferrari’s upgrades: they worked as planned in Spain. The problem isn’t Ferrari, it’s the competitors who are raising their game!

“The upgrades introduced in Spain worked as expected, but it’s clear that our competitors haven’t been idle, and currently, four teams are within three-tenths of each other.”

“Now, there is Austria, a circuit where the lap takes just over a minute, and these gaps on the grid can therefore be even smaller.”

“We will focus entirely on ourselves, because in Spielberg, every little detail can make a difference.”

“This weekend, the Sprint format returns, so the work done in Maranello is even more important, as there is only one hour of free practice before qualifying.”

Fred Vasseur has targeted a weak point of the Scuderia in recent races: qualifying. He is putting a lot of emphasis on the two qualifying sessions scheduled for this weekend.

“All team members, including the drivers, must be at their best to ensure we don’t miss any opportunities that come our way.”

“This is true for qualifying, especially against such strong opponents, but also for how we execute the race. I want us to step up our game in Austria.”

Reassuring statistics for Ferrari?

As if to reassure themselves, Ferrari also shared some interesting statistics about their 2024 season.

2 victories have already been achieved compared to 9 in the same period.

Moreover, the number of podiums “has increased by 350%” from 2 to 9 in a year, at the same period of the year. The number of points has increased by 72%, from 157 to 270.

And the team is only 60 points behind Red Bull in the constructors’ standings, compared to 254 last year at the same time.
