Vasseur Silent on Newey's Future Ferrari Awaits

Vasseur Silent on Newey’s Future, Ferrari Awaits

04/05/2024

As Adrian Newey’s next move remains unclear, Ferrari’s Vasseur chooses not to comment on the situation.

Red or green? Even at Red Bull, they are unsure of what Adrian Newey’s next move will be, but these are the two “most likely” teams for him, according to Dr. Helmut Marko.

The technical guru of the team is still sporting Red Bull colors in Miami and has admitted to feeling somewhat exhausted and needing a break before taking on a new challenge (read more here).

“Of course, it’s a painful loss for us,” acknowledged Dr. Helmut Marko, a consultant for Red Bull.

“I think it’s akin to a feeling of burnout for him. If he says he’s out of breath and needs a recovery period, then we must accept that decision. We still have a very broad technical team, led by Pierre Wache. I see no danger of us falling behind.”

“After some reflection, Adrian will regain his competitive thirst, which will then be available to another team, not ours. His strength has always been to perform exceptionally well when the regulations change, and thankfully, that won’t happen until 2026.”

There’s no doubt that Max Verstappen is keeping his options open for 2026, but the Dutchman has repeatedly stated in Miami that Newey’s departure would not see him leave the ship “for now.”

“I see Adrian in red next year,” shared Red Bull driver Sergio Perez.

However, Marko is not so sure and jokes,

“I think red contrasts a bit with dark blue. But I think a stunning green is also very possible. Those are the two most likely destinations for him.”

The reference is to Aston Martin F1, owned by the ambitious billionaire Lawrence Stroll, but rumors are much stronger around Newey and Ferrari.

“We are bringing Lewis to Ferrari,” said team boss Frédéric Vasseur in Miami, “but I don’t want to comment on the other story (Newey). We need to focus on what we are doing now.”

“I don’t want to comment or speculate on this matter. Newey will leave Red Bull, and we will focus on ourselves here in Miami.”
