RB F1: Tsunoda Celebrates Four ‘Deserved’ Points at Monaco

26/05/2024

Yuki Tsunoda achieved his first top 10 finish in Monaco, earning four well-deserved points and showcasing his growing consistency and skill in the challenging Principality race.

Yuki Tsunoda once again finished in the points, helping RB F1 add four more points to their tally. The Japanese driver’s eighth place marks his first top 10 finish in Monaco, and he is pleased that his patient approach, despite the frustration, paid off.

“It’s great to score points again, I think we deserve these points. There was a balance between me and the strategy; I wanted to attack but the strategy didn’t allow it. I stayed as calm as possible and enjoyed the last few laps. These are my first points in Monaco, so I’m happy,” Tsunoda said.

“It’s important that we keep scoring points. The team helps me feel confident from the first practice sessions and get into the rhythm right from FP1. I can focus on what I need to do, and we are becoming more consistent, so we need to keep it up.”

Daniel Ricciardo was among many drivers to describe the race as “painful,” finishing outside the top 10: “It’s a race in Monaco, it’s tough. If you’re not qualified in the points, it’s hard to get there. The first start was one of our rare very good starts this year, but it put me in a position I didn’t really want. There was a gap behind Gasly that closed up at the first corner, which helped Stroll.”

“He got me at the first start and at the second, he remembered and crossed the track to block the spot. He had a better start and got ahead. The two Astons dictated our race, but that’s how it is here. I had two laps in clean air where I could attack, and that was fun, but the rest was painful.”

He admits not understanding what sets him apart from Tsunoda: “There are positives, but also personal frustration. I can’t seem to get it right, and Yuki has been scoring points in recent races, so I need to understand what I’m failing to demonstrate. But it has to come together every weekend.”
