Gasly Alpine Teammate Clash Inexcusable

Gasly Criticizes Ocon: “Unacceptable Behavior”

26/05/2024

Pierre Gasly condemned Esteban Ocon’s behavior after their collision in Monaco, emphasizing that such incidents are unacceptable and detrimental to Alpine F1’s progress.

Pierre Gasly experienced a tumultuous day in Monaco. The Alpine F1 driver was involved in a collision with his teammate Esteban Ocon, but managed to convert his tenth-place start into a tenth-place finish, an important result.

“Right now, I am very happy and relieved for the entire team because we knew Monaco would provide an opportunity. We’ve struggled with the car since the beginning of the season, and Monaco is special. We seized the opportunity yesterday with that first Q3. It was important to capitalize on that, and we did,” Gasly said.

“But it wasn’t as calm as expected, I don’t want to go into too much detail and these things shouldn’t happen. We managed to get away with minimal damage, just to the front wing, which we were able to repair, but it shouldn’t happen.”

“I’m just disappointed with Esteban because it shouldn’t have happened, and for the team. We cannot afford to have this kind of behavior. We had clear instructions before the race and they were not followed. You should never take such risks by taking out both cars with your teammate. We could have scored with both cars.”

Ocon received a five-place grid penalty for the next Grand Prix, and Gasly is confident the team will find solutions to prevent this situation from recurring: “I’m sure it will be discussed and we cannot afford to experience a similar situation in the future. I’m sure we will talk about it and find solutions to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
