Tsunoda Targets Red Bull Spot Amid Aston Speculation

28/01/2024

Yuki Tsunoda, the Visa Cash App RB and Honda driver, sets his sights on a pivotal role at Red Bull Racing, dismissing rumors of a future shift to Aston Martin.

Yuki Tsunoda is eyeing his chance at Red Bull Racing. The Visa Cash App RB driver is also officially a Honda driver, linking him to a potential move to Aston Martin in 2026. However, Tsunoda doesn’t want to give the impression that he is focused on such a transfer. He wants to be judged based on his performance and not let a possible deal with Aston Martin hinder an opportunity at Red Bull.

This year, Tsunoda will start his fourth season with Red Bull’s sister team. With a natural connection to Honda, and the engine manufacturer set to partner with Aston Martin in 2026, there has been speculation about the driver’s likely switch to the British team. However, Tsunoda aims to dispel this rumor. “I don’t want Red Bull to think I am concentrating on Aston Martin or anything else,” Tsunoda is quoted by international media.

Tsunoda Aims for Red Bull Seat

The Visa Cash App RB driver intends to focus on his performance for the Red Bull sister team this season. With Sergio Pérez’s contract at the Austrian team coming to an end, there seems to be an opening beside Max Verstappen. “I have been with Honda since I was eighteen, but I need to focus on performing for Red Bull, not Aston Martin or anything else. I hope Red Bull doesn’t misunderstand this and seriously considers me for the future.”

“If I perform well, I am the driver they will choose, but if not, I understand,” Tsunoda continues. The Japanese driver will be considered alongside Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson. Red Bull also considered Lando Norris, but the British driver extended his contract with McLaren on Friday. Tsunoda is fully committed to seizing his opportunity at Red Bull. “If I am able to perform well, I would like to be rewarded for it.”

Tsunoda receives the green light from Honda.

The Visa Cash App RB driver indicates that there are no obligations from Honda. This means it doesn’t matter where he races in the future. “At Honda, they say if a Japanese driver can be successful one day, it doesn’t matter where I go. They want a Japanese driver to succeed, and of course, we’d be lucky if we could work together to achieve that. If not, it doesn’t matter to them, and I am comfortable with that,” says Tsunoda.
