Williams Struggles: Sargeant 18th, Albon 19th in Miami

04/05/2024

Williams’ Sargeant will start 18th and Albon 19th at the Miami Sprint race start. Sargeant made a mistake, Albon had a lap time deleted.

Williams F1 faced a challenging first day in Miami, securing the penultimate positions in Sprint qualifying. Logan Sargeant will start 18th tomorrow, lamenting a mistake that cost him time, especially as he is under pressure to retain his seat on the team.

“We had good pace in that session, with a lot of potential, but I had a huge snap in sector 1, which ended all chances of progressing,” Sargeant regretted. “Unfortunately, in Sprint qualifying, you only get one set of tires. We’ll see how the Sprint race goes tomorrow.”

Alex Albon had qualified 16th and would not have made it past Q1, but his lap was annulled, sending him to the back: “We also changed quite a few things between FP1 and qualifying, and unfortunately, the gamble did not pay off.”

“The changes we made were in the right direction, including some aerodynamic parts, but they didn’t quite match what we were expecting, and in the end, we compromised too much. We’ll wait for the Sprint race, then we’ll tweak the car settings and hope it improves things.”

Both Williams drivers gained a place after a penalty was imposed on Valtteri Bottas.
