Sainz salvages point as Williams fight reliability woes

Carlos Sainz snatched a valuable point in Canada, but Williams’ recurring reliability issues remain a growing concern for the team.

Carlos Sainz managed to snatch a point at the Canadian Grand Prix, despite starting from 16th on the grid. The Williams F1 driver was pleased with the result but endured a difficult race, having faced an issue he declined to specify.

“It’s good to have scored at least one point today, but I’m quite frustrated because I spent the race managing a problem, which stopped me from properly fighting. We did a good job to bring the car home and score that point, but as a team, we need to avoid these kinds of situations,” the Spaniard said with irritation.

“We didn’t show our full potential this weekend for one reason or another, and with such a tight field, that obviously affects the final result. We’ll regroup and come back fighting in Europe in two weeks.”

Alex Albon was forced to retire due to a mechanical issue after a tough start to the race, despite a promising weekend: “It was frustrating today. We retired due to a new engine block issue, but the race was already going badly for us.”

“I struggled on the first lap, then we tried a one-stop strategy, but with today’s graining, it was really hard to manage the tyres. Sometimes you can work around the issue, but not today.”

“Race strategy is also something we’re usually strong at, but we struggled today and it’s not to blame the team, it just wasn’t good. We’ll look into it and come back stronger next time.”
