Sainz Stalls in Sprint, Ricciardo Prevails in Speed

During the Miami F1 Sprint, Carlos Sainz’s efforts to pass Daniel Ricciardo were thwarted by Ricciardo’s superior straight-line speed.

Carlos Sainz failed to gain a position during the Miami F1 Sprint. The Ferrari driver started fifth and finished fifth, after spending most of the race in the wake of Daniel Ricciardo’s RB F1 VCARB 01, unable to overtake him.

“With Daniel’s top speed and his acceleration out of slow corners, it was difficult to pass him. I tried everything I could. But it was dusty off the racing line, and I couldn’t attempt to overtake him on the outside like at other tracks,” lamented the Spaniard.

Having opted for more downforce than its rivals to be more comfortable in the twisty sections, Sainz was not surprised to have struggled: “It was very difficult to overtake, but we knew that starting from fifth place in the Sprint with our aerodynamic choices, this could happen.”
