George Russell dismisses concerns over Adrian Newey’s sudden Red Bull exit.
Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull has been the hottest topic in the F1 paddock in recent days.
In Miami, no driver could avoid questions about the star designer.
George Russell of Mercedes F1 has downplayed the impact of Adrian Newey’s sudden departure (he has already stepped away from design, effective immediately) as he believes that Red Bull as a collective will remain strong without one of its key figures.
“I’ve never worked with Adrian, so I can’t speak to his skills, but what I’ve learned in Formula 1 is that it’s never one individual who is the reason for success.”
“It’s not just a brilliant designer who brings all the success, nor a team leader. It’s about how everything works well together, and I think that goes without saying for everything. In all sports, probably in business too.”
“No matter how great you are, if you don’t create authentic connections with the team and if you’re not pushing towards the same goals, you won’t be able to achieve anything.”
“I believe we have a great team at Mercedes. Of course, you always want to have the best individuals and make it work. But there’s no ‘I’ in team.”
