Ricciardo: New Chassis Boosts Season

19/05/2024

Daniel Ricciardo feels the new RB F1 chassis introduced in China has significantly improved his performance, boosting his confidence and setting a solid foundation for the rest of the season.

Daniel Ricciardo firmly stated in Imola that his new RB F1 chassis, introduced in China, has had a real impact on his performance.

After receiving a new chassis in Shanghai following four disappointing races at the start of the season, Ricciardo claims this decision has been “definitely positive” for him and his feel behind the wheel of the VCARB 01.

“Obviously, after the first few races, I understand that there were certain things we were trying to get a handle on with the new car. Both for me, my side of the garage, and the whole team.”

“I was always satisfied with the car, but the lap time was obviously a bit of a question mark, ultimately.”

“We changed the chassis in China, and some might say it didn’t make a difference, but for me, at least my feeling, but also on paper, it seems my season has taken quite a significant turn. So for now, it was something that I think was definitely positive.”

Starting on a better footing and more confident, Ricciardo talks about the next steps with his car.

“We’re just trying to extract a bit more lap time from the car with aerodynamic configurations, setups, and obviously the upcoming developments. But there’s nothing really specific to fix, nothing where I say: ‘Guys, we really need this.'”

“Yuki [Tsunoda] and I are asking for similar things. With a bit more experience than him, I suppose there might be a few extra things I can lean on and ask the team for. But honestly, there’s nothing particular; our F1 car is solid. It’s just missing a few tenths.”
