Ricciardo Denies Tsunoda Tension Over Red Bull

Ricciardo Denies Tsunoda Tension Over Red Bull

20/03/2024

Daniel Ricciardo clarifies that tensions with Yuki Tsunoda are not due to competition for a Red Bull seat in 2025, focusing on his current performance.

Daniel Ricciardo insists that the apparent tensions between him and Yuki Tsunoda are not the result of a final goal, namely aiming to take over Sergio Perez’s seat at Red Bull in 2025.

The Australian claims he is not considering a potential return to Red Bull and is focusing solely on driving for RB F1.

When asked if the possibility of a Red Bull seat could heighten tensions between the two drivers of the Italian team, Ricciardo says he does not think that far ahead.

“Listen, I don’t know, I’ve been around for a long time now, and I feel like there’s pressure every year. Obviously, you have to beat your teammate in F1 first and foremost, but I prefer to speak on the track, not in the media.”

“I’m someone who obviously joined a top team (Red Bull Racing) at one point, who changed teams (Renault F1), and then I’m also someone who lost his contract (McLaren) and was left on the sidelines, so I’ve experienced it all.”

“In the end, things need to be simplified, for example, when I’m in front of you, the media, my goal is to drive the car as fast as possible to avoid media pressure at least.”

“So yes, we can sometimes overcomplicate things or think about what will happen if Red Bull considers me and whether I have a chance of getting that contract or not, there’s so much going on behind the scenes. And all we have to do is press a bit more on the right pedal than on the left.”

“Honestly, sometimes it needs to be boiled down to something as simple as that, that’s really, honestly, why we’re here. That’s what ultimately decides for team bosses. So that’s my approach: go as fast and as well as possible. And the rest will sort itself out.”
