Daniel Ricciardo faces a pivotal year with RB F1, as doubts loom over his future performance and career trajectory.
This year, Daniel Ricciardo aims to revive his career with RB F1, yet his fellow countryman, 1980 World Champion Alan Jones, believes the Australian driver is disillusioned with his performance.
“I think Ricciardo would agree with that,” Jones told the Herald Sun. “I’m sure Daniel would have preferred better outcomes than what he’s achieved, whether due to bad luck or not.”
“Ultimately, we can’t always blame the car, which seems to have been a bit of a trend in the past. I’d really like to see Daniel succeed in Melbourne, I’d really like to see Daniel succeed in general.”
Jones warns Ricciardo about his future: “But I think his luck needs to turn, or he needs to step up his game if he wants a chance to return to the Red Bull team or a more competitive car. He’s stagnating.”
“He really needs to deliver very good results and make a strong impression; he can’t afford to linger where he is. I hate to say it, but I think we’ve seen his best days. He’s had his opportunity in a few decent cars, regardless of what people say.”
“The Alpine or the McLaren, the car he’s currently in… ultimately, he has to beat his teammate to start with. I’d like him to become super competitive and fight for points, but I think some things need to change before that happens.”
