Max Verstappen remains calm as Red Bull Racing undergoes major team restructuring, seeing departures and promotions.
Max Verstappen stated that the restructuring of Red Bull following the departure of key personnel was a “logical” step but not “worrying.”
The Milton Keynes-based team confirmed earlier this month that Verstappen’s race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, would be promoted to a higher position next year while continuing his duties with Verstappen.
Steve Knowles will take on the role of Sporting Director, with various other changes also underway within the company. These changes follow the confirmation that Jonathan Wheatley will leave the team to assume the role of Team Director at Audi F1.
The wave of departures will continue with Will Courtenay, Head of Strategy, moving to McLaren F1, although Red Bull insists that his current contract runs until 2026.
Isn’t it time for Max Verstappen to worry?
“No, it’s not worrying. And the announcement made to restructure the team’s leadership makes sense. In itself, these are logical steps, with certain roles being distributed among several people.”
When asked if he was included in the decision-making process, Verstappen replied, “Of course, I knew this was going to happen.”
“They explain to me what they are going to do, after which I give my feedback on it.”
Even though Lambiase will be taking on more responsibilities, Verstappen is not worried that it will disrupt his direct relationship with him and his race engineering duties.
“No, that will not be the case. He was already doing more than his engineering job anyway. It’s well thought out, and ultimately, it distributes the workload better. It’s good.”
