Schumacher Out as Audi F1 Closes Door

Ecclestone Nods to Audi F1’s Schumacher Snub

30/09/2024

Mick Schumacher’s hopes for an Audi F1 seat fade as the team seeks alternative strategies.

Mick Schumacher appears completely sidelined from the list of candidates for the Audi F1 seat. Last month, the German still hoped for a favorable outcome, but the door seems to have closed.

Bernie Ecclestone, the former Formula 1 boss, defends Sauber and Audi’s perspective, implying that excluding the German from the list of contenders is logical, given his performance.

“You can understand Audi’s position,” Ecclestone said. “When they commit, they will need their number one and a number two driver. They will need a lot of help to protect their brand. They cannot just stand by.”

Ecclestone is unsure if Valtteri Bottas, who now seems to be the favorite to continue in the Sauber C45 seat next year, will be a good solution: “Only time will tell.”

As for Schumacher, the 2025 season will likely continue as this year, with WEC at Alpine and the title: “Things are going well there. So we are all convinced that I will continue to play this role.”
