Red Bull Hadjar Steps In for Perez in FP1

Hadjar to Pilot RB20 in FP1, Replacing Perez

04/07/2024

Isack Hadjar will take over Sergio Perez’s RB20 in tomorrow’s FP1 session at Red Bull, stepping in for the seasoned driver.

F2 driver Isack Hadjar will take the wheel of Sergio Perez’s RB20 at Red Bull during the first free practice session of the British Grand Prix weekend tomorrow.

With a busy schedule during the British Grand Prix weekend, Hadjar will need to balance his duties in FP1 with Red Bull and his F2 commitments for Campos Racing.

Under current F1 regulations, each team must field a rookie (defined as a driver who has competed in two or fewer Grands Prix) in two free practice sessions per season.

The Red Bull junior currently holds second place in the F2 standings in what has been an impressive campaign so far for the 19-year-old, with race wins in Melbourne and Imola particularly notable.

The French driver had previously made two FP1 appearances in 2023 – one for AlphaTauri (now RB F1) in Mexico, and one for Red Bull in Abu Dhabi.

He will join some of his F2 colleagues in FP1, with Franco Colapinto at Williams while Ollie Bearman – confirmed at Haas for 2025 – will also make another appearance in testing for the American team.

Alpine reserve driver Jack Doohan, who raced in F2 last year and finished third, will also take the wheel of Pierre Gasly’s car in FP1 as he continues to seek a spot on the F1 grid for 2025.
