Pirelli’s Bold Tyre Shakeup for Silverstone & Spa

Pirelli shakes things up for the races at Silverstone and Spa. New tyre choices could disrupt strategies this season. Get ready for surprises.

The selected compounds for the Austrian, Hungarian, British, and Belgian Grands Prix are now confirmed. Some choices are standard, others are bold bets for two key events.

Austria and Hungary see no changes: teams will use the C3, C4, and C5 tyres. A familiar combination, already used last season without major surprises.

Both tracks are nearly identical in length, but their characteristics differ. Spielberg is fast and flowing, while Budapest is tight, technical, and easy on the tyres.

The real shakeup comes at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps. Two demanding circuits where tyres are pushed to the limit, especially in high-speed corners.

At Silverstone, Pirelli takes a gamble. No more ultra-hard compounds: the selection moves to C2 (hard), C3 (medium), and C4 (soft). A more aggressive approach than before.

Spa sticks with part of the 2024 selection, but with a twist. The hard tyre will no longer be the C2 but the C1, stiffer and more durable, but less efficient.

These decisions aim to add variety to race strategies. One stop or two? Everything is now on the table. And that’s great for the show.

Silverstone will demand careful management of the medium compound, which played the role of soft tyre for the past two seasons. Drivers must adapt to the new setup.

At Spa, the Sprint format could shake up plans. Those betting on the C1 to go the distance must weigh the performance gap compared to last year’s C2.

With these changes, Pirelli hopes to reignite tactical thinking in F1. Fewer certainties, more options. Every decision could make a major difference.
