Pirelli Testing Jerez F1

Hamilton, Alonso Test Pirelli Tyres in Jerez Heat

07/02/2024

In Jerez, Spain, Hamilton and Alonso completed 282 laps testing Pirelli tyres, showcasing the durability and performance of 2023 F1 cars under spring conditions.

Jerez de la Frontera, in the south of Spain, hosts the second testing session of the year for Pirelli, with two multiple world champions taking to the track on the first day of testing yesterday Tuesday.

Lewis Hamilton drove for Mercedes F1 while Fernando Alonso represented Aston Martin on the Andalusian circuit.

Conducted with 2023 cars, the program was similar to that carried out by Ferrari in Barcelona last week: comparing different combinations of compounds and structures for 2025, with the aim of reducing tire overheating in F1.

Temperatures exceeded 20 degrees ambient and 30 degrees on track yesterday, in spring conditions. Over 1,200 kilometers were covered, with Alonso completing 156 laps and Hamilton 126. The lap times are not very indicative as the two teams were running different programs. Alonso set the best time at 1’18’’752 while Hamilton’s best lap was 1’18’’936.

Testing in Jerez continues this Tuesday with George Russell driving the Mercedes and Lance Stroll in the Aston Martin.
