Oscar Piastri reflects on a tough weekend, with a disappointing qualifying session hampering his progress to a stronger finish in Mexico.
Oscar Piastri admits he couldn’t do much better than eighth place at the Mexican Grand Prix after starting 17th. The McLaren F1 driver made a solid comeback but couldn’t climb higher in the standings.
“More or less. I might have caught Magnussen, but it was tough to do better. It’s a frustrating weekend because of the qualifying, and eighth place isn’t where I want to finish. But beyond the result, I’ve gained a better understanding of what I need, and I hope to use that,” said Piastri.
The Australian laments that his poor qualifying so heavily influenced his race result: “I don’t think we were missing anything yesterday, I just made a mistake, which made this result even more painful.”
“Today’s outcome was entirely dependent on qualifying. I had good pace in practice, but I made the mistake, and it was fine when I looked clean in the race. It’s a shame not to achieve a better result this weekend.”
