Oscar Piastri overcame tyre dilemmas and practice struggles to secure a strong P3 on the grid for Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix.
Oscar Piastri clocked the third-fastest time in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix.
The McLaren F1 driver had feared a worse result, and is therefore relieved to be starting just behind George Russell and Max Verstappen this Sunday.
“To be honest, I’m satisfied given our practice sessions, we really turned things around,” said Piastri.
“There was the question of whether we’d go for mediums or softs, and we chose the softs because we’d had issues and wanted consistency.”
The Australian is pleased with his second-row start, which is usually considered an underachievement for McLaren this season.
“I’m happy with third place, which is different from the rest of the year, but I’ll take it.”
