Pérez Aims for Comeback in F1’s 2024 Season

18/02/2024

Sergio Pérez sets sights on overcoming 2023’s setbacks with Red Bull Racing for a stronger 2024 performance.

New round, new opportunities: Red Bull Racing driver Sergio Pérez hopes he can leave all the defeats of 2023 behind to start afresh in the upcoming season.

The Mexican faced some tough times last season due to misunderstandings and unnecessary mistakes, but after numerous analyses and several successful test rounds in the simulator, Pérez is looking forward again.

Pérez will enter his fourth year as part of the Red Bull family in 2024, and it’s understandable that the Mexican hopes for a better season this time.

In previous years, he frequently raced in the shadow of his exceptionally strong teammate, Max Verstappen, and it seemed like each race went further downhill.

However, Pérez remains the hopeful Mexican, and just like in 2023, he approaches the coming season with a new dose of self-confidence. So far, things are going well for Pérez, at least according to him.

Misunderstandings the main reason for a difficult 2023.

In a conversation with Motorsport.com, Pérez reflected for one of the last times on 2023, a season full of missed opportunities and setbacks.

His second place in the drivers’ championship couldn’t ultimately ease the pain, and he felt increasingly uncomfortable behind the wheel of the RB19.

‘We already had some problems while we were still developing the car, and the way we tried to solve certain problems eventually led to a decrease in performance. It became a bit more comfortable, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it also gets faster. Qatar and Japan were therefore the low points of my season.’

Yet, Pérez tackled the problem head-on, and the simulator work prior to the United States Grand Prix was ultimately the deciding factor for the Mexican.

There, he saw the light at the end of the tunnel, mainly due to understanding.

‘Now that I’ve learned a lot from the past year, it’s important that I also understand where exactly things went wrong, so I can learn from my mistakes. I think we understand a lot at this point, as I’m starting my fourth year at Red Bull, and I also hope that this year I will be at my best.’
