Sergio Pérez remains optimistic about extending his Red Bull contract but hasn’t ruled out exploring opportunities with other teams, emphasizing the ever-present pressure in Formula 1.

Sergio Pérez revealed he is no closer to signing a new deal with Red Bull, despite Alex Albon ultimately choosing to extend his contract with Williams F1.

Ahead of this weekend’s Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Williams announced that Albon had signed a new multi-year contract, keeping him with the team until at least 2027.

Albon was one of the main contenders to potentially replace Perez, given his previous ties with the team and the presumed wishes of the Thai shareholder. He spent just over a season alongside Max Verstappen between 2019 and 2020 before being sidelined for the following season. The Thai driver returned to F1 in 2022 with Williams.

With Albon out of the transfer market, Pérez’s position at Red Bull logically strengthens.

“Yes, if you want,” the Mexican responded in Imola.

“Like you, I was reading the rumors about him. I know he knocked on many doors, certainly at Red Bull too. But I don’t think Red Bull gave him hope for a return, otherwise, he wouldn’t have extended for so long.”

Reflecting on his own future, he admitted, “Nothing has been signed, still nothing. Everything is still open. However, I strongly believe that I will stay.”

“We are entering a very intense part of the season, and I want to put this aside because I think it’s important to focus on the racing side.”

“I hope that as soon as possible, everything can be finalized and we can announce it.”

Pérez downplayed the impact of not having settled his future.

“I think that in Formula 1, there is always pressure. Whether you have a contract or not, you always have to perform. Especially with Red Bull, it’s a very high-pressure environment. So that doesn’t change. I believe that sooner or later, we will know what I’m doing.”

Perez has not ruled out talking to other teams either.

“Until nothing is signed, everything is an option.”
